My Pedagogic Creed, from 1897, must be considered the Pedagogical Manifesto of John Dewey.
After the classic interpretation by Lamberto Borghi, the introduction by Teodora Pezzano – who, in addition to editing the text, has provided a new translation – attempts to rethink the meaning of this work within the development of the American philosopher's thought. The editor, in fact, reconstructs the genesis of this text by focusing on the continuity with Dewey's previous research and the themes that characterized them, such as: the mind-body relationship, the theory of the social organism, the link between theory and practice, and others. This research is linked to the philosopher's choice to deal with education in order to better understand the meaning of human action. In this perspective, the five articles of My Pedagogic Creed represent a work program, a true cultural Manifesto that will remain at the basis of Dewey's philosophical-pedagogical and political investigation. An investigation aimed at defining an education consistent with the democratic ideal.
