At the center of this truly unique book is a gallery with seven portraits of women who differ in character, culture, personal and social condition, but above all in age. Modern and courageous women, determined to live their lives in full autonomy, synthesizing their rights and duties. Women who embody a third-millennium feminism, starting with the legitimate demand, a true right, to have a full and intense emotional life, to be combined with their cultural and professional interests. However, violence against women continues to be a scourge present in all social environments and at all ages; sometimes it erupts precisely in the face of the threat of abandonment and does not tolerate the woman's superiority or even simply her autonomy. These women's voices, so different and yet so similar, bear witness to this.
Even today, violence is an undeniable fact that women have to deal with.
The Author:
Ileana Argentin was born in Rome in 1963. Affected by spinal muscular atrophy, she graduated from Sapienza University of Rome. Always active in associations, she became: President of UILDM Lazio (Italian Union for the Fight against Muscular Dystrophy), of the Dynamic Air Association of COES Onlus, member of the National Board of FISH (Italian Federation for Overcoming Handicap) and of the City Council for Handicap. In 1997 she became a city councilor in Rome on the PDS lists, confirmed on the city council with the DS, W. Veltroni entrusted her with the delegation for Disability Policies and that for Mental Health and Law 626. In 2007 she was part of the National Constituent Assembly of the Democratic Party in the committee drafting the manifesto of values. In 2008 she was elected to the Chamber of Deputies on the PD lists. In 2011 she became President of ALM (Lazio Association for the Disabled). In the same year, P.L. Bersani, national secretary of the PD, appointed her as national head of disability rights. In 2013 she was re-elected as a Member of Parliament. In 2018 she founded AIDA (Italian Association for the Disabled and Alternatives), with the aim of eliminating cultural barriers. She is currently
